the room is alive!!!! with music

I have never heard a room breathe like I did last night. By way of five or so microphones, a space can transform into a living, exasperated, body. The pipes ticking, the floor settling, the rain, the wind finding an escape from the outside, running water between the walls. The dirt under it's finger nails.

many mics=creepy sounds

I have never heard a room breathe like I did last night and its every move completely freaked me out! While recording upright piano, facing a wall, I continuously had to look over my shoulder to see if some anonymous man was standing in the hall. This escaped imagery of my mind of course comes after being in the vocal booth the other night, making my normal self-indulged sound effects over the mic to Tim, laughing and being stupid, when all of a sudden a man's voice in the sound proof room said to me "Cut it out". I asked Tim if he had said "Cut it out" and he said no. He works there all the time late at night though and hasn't caught the same creepy vibe as me.

Last night was interesting because for the first time, I tried tracking piano and vocals at the same time. It's usually a difficult thing to accomplish, since you want to isolate both instruments to individual tracks. But it was much more natural feeling, I think since I don't have to solely focus on my vocals. Usually when I do, I think too much and am too critical.

We also finished all the grand piano for the record, which was done at CBC. Dan also tracked a couple new arrangements recently. SEE BELOW!!!

Tomorrow is our show at the Tranzac and then I am going to enjoy the slow down of the long weekend. Bowling, guitar hero, mom, dad, sister, value village.

TENNESSEE! no not really, but I just wanted to shout TENNESSEE!

Happy spring. I am so relieved that the house is defrosting. Now the only thing left to do is clean up the filthy snow bank remains. The littered cigarette butts and dog piles. Then this city will be shouting spring. Thank freaking god.
